Virginia Pathways is an educational video series with print and web materials, produced in association with the Virginia History Production Consortium. The series is dictated by the fourth grade Virginia History Standards of Learning . Designed for use in the classroom, each episode reflects the experiences of a group of 9 to 11 year old children. The programs can be viewed in their entirety, but also contain stand-alone educational components within each episode. These are produced so that they may be viewed in isolation from the rest of the story. Print materials, designed specifically for the classroom educator, accompany each episode. The use of these materials is strongly encouraged. Episode #1, " Taxes and Transportation" was identified as the initial production of the series, integrating history, economics and geography connecting roads and highway construction with taxes. Episode #1 is fifteen minutes in length. Episode #2, Making the Move, is the second program in the series. This episode continues integrating history and economics by discussing the effects of migration throughout Virginia, from the early settlers to the present. Episode #2 is approximately twenty minutes in length. Episode #3, Virginia Government, is the third program in the series. This episode emphasizes the individuals and the documents which made significant impact on how the government of Virginia evolved. Episode #3 is twenty minutes in length. Episode #4, "Civil Rights: Part 1", is the fourth program in the series. This episode focuses primarily on Civil Rights in Virginia prior to Reconstruction.
